I’m a high-energy jazz drummer, and if I had to compare myself to someone who came before me, it would definitely be Art Blakey—swing hard, solo hard, and keep pushing the music forward. But sometimes I’m playing with such beautiful soloists that my role is to not get in the way. That means sitting back, listening and providing color, texture, and rhythm to support  them.
